Story Time at the Millis Library

ToddPete-the-Catler Time:

Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30am

Toddler time is geared towards children ages 1-3, but children of any age are welcome.  We sing and share stories.  There is always plenty of time afterwards to play and explore the children’s room!  Toddler Time meets on an ongoing basis with occasional scheduled days off.  To check if a Story time is meeting on a particular day, see our Events Calendar.

Wednesdays at 10:30am AND 1st and 2nd Saturdays of the Month September 10-June  10:30am

Mother Goose on the Loose is geared towards our youngest patrons, children ages 0-3, but children of any age are welcome.  We sing, do finger plays, lap sit songs, and share a simple story.  Afterward, children are invited to color  and/or  play and explore the children’s room.  Mother Goose on the Loose meets on Wednesdays on an ongoing basis with occasional scheduled days off.  The Saturday group meets the 1st & 2nd Saturday of the month September-June.  To check if a Story time is meeting on a particular day, see our Events Calendar.

 Pajama Story Time

One Monday a Month 6:15pm-7:00pm

Recommended for children ages 2-5, we read picture books, sing songs and do a craft, all in our PJs!

Join us for LEGO Club at the Millis Public Library!

Lego Club

Lego Club is a drop-in Lego playgroup that meets bi-weekly (weekly when school is out!) at the Millis Public Library in our Roche Bros Community Room.  The suggested age range is PreS-4th grade. We build, cleanup, and then display our creations in the Children’s Room until the next meeting.  Come once or come every time, no need to sign up!

Rube Goldberg Workshop

For Children Ages 5-14 and their families

Wednesday, August 3rd 4-6pm

Playful engineers is bringing their Rube Goldberg Workshop to the Millis Public Library!  Children and families will get to design, test, and redesign, learning basic physics through building.  Materials will include dominos, popsicle sticks, rubber bands, string, ping pong balls, pulleys, buckets, tracks, ramps, lego cars,                   pre-constructed catapults, mini-zip lines, screwbolt time-spirals, ball-drops, trajectory bouncers, lever-action direction changers, and yardstick marble runs.

This is a drop-in event, you may come any time during the 2 hour window.

Coding for Minecraft

Calling all crafters! Learn how to summon lightning bolts with a bow and arrow or build giant rainbows in the Minecraft world with code! Spawn farm animals or monsters instantly and have fun “modding” your world! (This workshop introduces coding concepts by showing students how to build or change (e.g. mod) the game using the Javascript or Python programming language. The set-up is easy for beginners, challenging for experienced gamers and fun for everyone!

PreSchool Art Time!

Join us for fun, skill building art projects designed especially for preschoolers ages 3-5!

Pop Up Art!

For Children Ages 8-12

Wednesday, July 19, 3-4:30PM

The Pop Up Art School is visiting the Millis Public Library this summer to run a hands-on workshop for children ages 8-12 on the artist Beverly Buchanan.  Beverly Buchanan is a contemporary artist who cobbles together small buildings made from found objects and slabs of wood painted with bright colors. At the workshop, children will design and build their own building with cardboard and paint in Buchanan’s style.

Registration is required.  Please email Youth Services Librarian Rachel at rsilverman@minlib.net to register.  Please include the first name/names of the children you are signing up.

This July join Miss Rachel and her team of Spanish speaking volunteers for Español para mí! Each week  we will  learn Spanish vocabulary and phrases through singing, reading & art. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary, but current  immersion students with Spanish knowledge are invited to join the fun.\

The class is meant to work as a series, so please only register if you plan to attend at least 3 of the 4 classes.

Summer Literacy Bingo for Preschoolers

Preschoolers can get into the Summer Reading action this year by playing the Millis Library Summer Literacy BINGO game!

Pick up or print a BINGO sheet at the library or print your own here

Instead of numbers, each square on our Summer Literacy BINGO sheet will have an activity that will emphasize not only sharing books, but other essential skills that will help prepare your preschooler to learn to read.   Complete 5 activities in a single row by AUGUST 31st to “BINGO.”  Everyone who BINGOs will be invited to a party in early September (date TBA) to celebrate their accomplishment!  Make sure you email Youth Services Librarian Rachel at rsilverman@minlib.net when you BINGO so she can email you an invitation to the party!

Summer Literacy BINGO was designed with preschoolers in mind, but if you’d like to use it with a slightly older or younger child, you are more than welcome!

Millis students! Create a login for our Summer Reading Tracker and get access to cool challenges and great prizes!

Students entering 1st-4th Grade

Use the link below to register for the Millis Public Library Summer Reading Tracker!  You can sign up now, then start tracking your books online starting on June 20th.  For every 5 books you read and record you’ll earn a prize that you can come pick up at the library!  If you attend Clyde Brown, no need to track on paper as well.  The Millis Library is able to share your online tracking with CFB.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover Pajama Story Time

Come dressed in your PJs for a story time featuring awesome picture books and a cool craft!  Bring a stuffed friend to the library for PJ Storytime this month and they will get to SLEEP OVER at the library!  You can come back for them the next day and we’ll have a photo of your stuffed animal enjoying the library!

DON’T bring a friend who you go to bed with!  They will miss you!

Outdoor Toddler Playgroup

Bubbles, water tables, sprinklers, and more! Come dressed to get wet! Swimsuits encouraged.

 Geared towards children ages 12mos-36mos Older and younger siblings welcome!

Please be advised that Outdoor Playgroup is held in our library courtyard, which is not fenced in.

In the event of rain, the playgroup will meet in the Roche Bros. Community Room at the Millis Library.
